Colchester Borough Council has been inspired to create a place where local people and visitors alike can live, work, relax and shape happy, healthy lifestyles for themselves and their families.
This expansive space, which lies to the north and south of Junction 28 of the A12, is gradually transforming into a new sport, leisure, business and residential destination of regional significance. The opening in 2021 of the multi-million pound Colchester Sports Park, was a major step forward in turning our vision into a reality.
Work is now underway on the construction of the 200,000 sq ft Leisure Park which is scheduled to open in Autumn 2023.
With world-class digital connectivity, easy access to the regional transport network, and high-quality urban design, the Northern Gateway will become a thriving location for living, playing, working and doing business.

A new destination for sport in Essex. Colchester Sports Park, part of Leisure World, is a 76 acre site providing both indoor and outdoor sports and leisure activities.
The Sports Park is unique to Essex and features a 1 mile floodlit Cycle Track and Pump Track. This facility is a safe space for both leisurely and challenging cycling. The track will have cycling provisions for people with disabilities and for those with special needs.
There is ample parking at the Colchester Northern Gateway with a surface car park of 300 spaces. This can be used by customers of Colchester Sports Park and members of Colchester Rugby Club and Colchester Archery Club.
